“Science is not about “Ganapathi” and “Pushpaka Vimana”; those are all myths. Such superstitious beliefs hinder societal progress. In the era of Artificial Intelligence, these are merely myths. The incidents narrated in the Puranas propagate and spread superstitious beliefs, such as the claim that an elephant head was attached through plastic surgery. Let us embrace the age of technology and reject all myths.”

These are the words of Kerala assembly speaker A.N.Shamseer. The man openly mocked the Puranas while speaking at an event on Artificial intelligence. However, he was quiet about the various primitive practices still existing and being followed in other religions, including his own. I wonder if he still believes that the Earth is flat. Does he believe that the sun sets in muddy water? Does he also believe that he is going to heaven, while many helpless souls like us are cursed to suffer in hell? Being a “beacon of progress”, I also wonder if he finds practices such as Nikah Halala and polygamy progressive.

Kerala ministers mocking Puranas and our rituals are nothing new. However, the sheer audacity with which they go around insulting one community alone is utterly reprehensible.

To Mr. Shamseer,

Please leave the Vedas, Puranas, and Itihasas alone. Nobody asked for your opinion on what is scientific and unscientific about them. As for being progressive, why don’t you first look at reforming your own community? If you are truly progressive, prove it by supporting the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code. Can’t do that, right? Yeah, we thought so!
