In Kerala, Muslim organizations have a new demand: they do not want public exams to be held on Fridays. This demand was apparently placed before the Minorities Minister, V. Abdur Rahman, yesterday in a meeting held for minority organizations. According to them, exams on Fridays interfere with their worship and rituals.

In a similar demand, Christian organizations have asked the Kannur district administration not to hold the Kannur Athletic meet on October 8th, which happens to be a Sunday. Thalassery Archdiocese mentioned that this would create difficulties for Christians.

Now that Fridays and Sundays have been taken over by others, let’s give a shot for the remaining days. What do you say? As a devotee of Lord Shiva, I usually have an evening Puja on Mondays, and I visit the nearby Shiva temple on Monday morning. Exams and work interfere with my pujas. Monday should be a public holiday for me and other Shiva devotees. Perhaps Thursdays could be public holidays for Vishnu devotees. We are taken for granted because we don’t have any demands like this.

What’s your opinion? Who do you worship? When would you like the weekly holiday to be?
